The Medicinal Uses Of Epsom Salts

Discovered in the 17th century in the town of Epsom, southwest of London, Epsom salts were once the most popular medicinal treatment in England. Locals noticed that cows and other animals visited the spring and miraculously, their wounds healed more quickly. It wasn't long before word spread and people traveled from all corners of the country seeking relief from their ailments.

Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate crystals or flakes that are usually used externally in baths. As previous generations noted, the magnesium from the Epsom salts is absorbed through the skin, and this is how Epsom salts are most commonly used.
