Cedarside for all bugs you are tired of living with!

Post by fern »

This is the 4th summer we have lived in this house. As usual, July brought the never ending infestation of fleas out of these walls. The pest company that treated the house 3 times the first year left me suffering all winter with the smell of chemicals no matter how much I scrubbed and cleaned and I still had fleas. Year 2 and 3, I sprayed diatomaceous earth every week and that would take care of business within 3 weeks but I would have to move out for two days each time I sprayed since it takes that long for the stuff to settle out of the air. This 4th summer brought the flea problem back and I have been living with them longer than I should have since we have only been spraying in the basement. They just all moved upstairs with me. I was listening to George Noory the other night and he recommended a product called Cedarside. I called them and purchased a small spray bottle full and a gallon to refill it with. It arrived Monday and I sprayed the house last night and went to bed. After two and half months of wearing my rubber boots in place of slippers or shoes and still dealing with constant painful bites, this product took care of business. When I woke this morning, I grabbed a pair of white (fleas love white) slippers in place of my rubber boots and decided to see just how well cedarside works. It has been 3 hours and not one bite or sign of a flea. The bottle states it is made with all food grade ingredients, safe for dogs, cats, kids, etc and it works on every type of bug that bugs you. It appears to have a light oil type base to it. It took about 2 hours to dry and it leaves your house smelling like cedar!! I sprayed the entire main floor with the small spray bottle they sent. Each spray covered a 3 square foot area (amazing!) and was very easy to use. I sprayed the furniture, drapes, and anything else I came across and used less then 2" of the small bottle. Today I am going to repeat this process in the basement and then just for fun in the garage and on our porch. After all the months (and years) I have suffered with this problem that we purchased with this house...I can highly recommend cedarside.

Thanks for the info -- can you spray the dogs with it?

Yes. And I have sprayed my son's dog just this week. It is a little harder for cats. You cannot spray them but are to dip your fingers in the cedarside and then run them deep through their fur. They lick too much and it can make them sick if they digest too much of it. I followed those directions and put it on our hairball with no issues. The fleas like me better than her anyway. I have also sprayed my own clothes with it and all my white sneakers...just in case!

As an update to the flea nightmare in our house and using Cedarside, I had to spray the basement twice and the main floor one more time. There are NO fleas anymore. Actually, I have not even seen a fall spider that typically moves in or a fruit fly or even a normal pesky fly. It is solid bugless peace and quiet within these walls. I want to spray again simply because I love the smell of the product but I will contain that urge and just be grateful. I hope we are not in this house next year but I will be wondering if this product truly ended the flea problem in this house permanently.

Does that product claim to kill the flea eggs also? If so then you may have eliminated the problem.

Cedarcide makes a product for sealing decks and fences too. I may have to give that a try next spring. They also make a product just for bed bugs and could make a fortune here on the east coast at 90% of the hotels. They should have a person going from one to the next and saving all the poor guests the nightmare of bites and extra baggage when they leave.

Still no fleas to report on. But yesterday we sprayed our porch and the house walls within the porch area to see if cedarcide would rid us of the many stink bugs plastered everywhere. It worked within a minute of any of them landing on the porch. They would immediately start stumbling and some would try to fly or at least open their wings before tipping over dead.

Last week I was reading the label on the cedarside bottle and it said not for use on houseplants and that gave me an idea. I have stubborn poison sumac and poison oak that keeps trying to climb up my porch so I went and doused them with the cedarcide. It took about 4 days but they all died. One more plus in my book for cedarcide!

I have an ending to my almost 4 year nightmare flea problem and it was an unexpected finale. Since moving into this house, each winter, I get sick when the furnace is turned on. We faithfully have the furnace checked annually and the filter is changed monthly but still I get sick. It happened immediately again this year. I turned the furnace back off and froze through a cold spell and called a co that only makes ducts. Then I impatiently waited for our new supply ducts to be made and installed. When they were finally here and installed...we turned the furnace on and it was heaven. No stuffy head, no coughing and peace for two whole days...then it started again. I turned the furnace back off and called the duct guy back and asked him to replace our return air ducts. That took another 3 weeks but last Friday, he arrived to tear out the old and install the new. About 3 hours into his work, he knocked on the kitchen door to let me know that our return ducts were full of filth, crap, and fleas. The men were getting chewed up. They finished the ducts that evening and cleaned up all the mess, smashing the ducts into boxes, etc. They could not (I think they did not want to and I don't blame them!) fit all the boxes into their van so they asked to leave them for me to put out on garbage day. I did not go near the boxes but my husband did and said that he could see the fleas jumping around in there. The basement was swept thoroughly and resprayed with cedarcide and the same to our main floor. We had encountered sporadic fleas until we swept and resprayed. Knock on wood...I have not seen or been bitten since and I have a warm house and am FINALLY not getting sick. Cedarcide obviously killed the fleas in our house and managed to keep the fleas from coming out of the ducts into the house but would never have been able to kill what was constantly breeding in those ducts. So the mystery of the fleas is solved and I have had no need of cedarcide since the weekend. Just to feel prepared, I have ordered another gallon to have and keep on hand though. I have also ordered cedarcide's spray for exterior use. I plan on ensuring there are no fleas hiding in our yard or waiting to move back in next season.

I will add one more tidbit of info. Each of the previous 3 years we have lived here, I would hire a duct cleaning company to do all our ducts. They are NOT cheap. I hired a large firm from the city the first year, a local company the second year, and Stanley Steamer Duct cleaning specialists last year. From the amount of filth that was in ALL of our ducts...I can honestly NOT recommend wasting your money on these people. Each cut their own holes in our ducts at different locations but the amount of what still came out of this house was unbelievable. These companies are a farce...at least in our area and the amount I paid to have the ducts cleaned in two years is equal to the cost we paid to replace all of them.

Cedarside saved the day again. One morning just a few weeks ago, my daughter woke up to being chewed on. She and her two year old son were all getting chewed up. He had picked up fleas from outdoor cats he was playing with at a friends house. The fleas were through their bedrooms and laundry room and almost everywhere. I gave her my cedarcide and two treatments did the job.
