Picked up 10 jars of Ragu tomato sauce (1lb 10oz jar) for $6.09 today. The store had a great sale and I had some coupons to go w/ it. And they dont expire till Sept 2012.

:D Built some shelves high up on my garage wall to place large bulky items on, like coolers and boxes of medical supplies that are seldom needed. I need a stepladder to access these items now but this frees up space on the lower cabinet shelves for more food storage .

Its a s***** job but somebody has to do it. One reason toilet paper is going up in price is the relative light weight of the product and only so much will fit into a trailer. Store profits fall because they cannot bring in as much as before. So any time you see a bargain on toilet paper, get it! Our benchmark is no more than $5 for 24 rolls or 12 double rolls. Our local Smith's (Krogers) had packs of 12 double rolls for $4. Would you believe we have a larger closet just for storing TP? It is chock full now. I don't look forward to when the TP runs out but something else will suffice. The rolls are getting narrower and they are eliminating the tube to cut down on the cost and fit more into a large carton.

That's one thing I keep forgetting to stock up on. I do get several rolls at a time when I get them but, I ain't getting them often enough, same for paper towels.
I did go out and get something today, several boxes of ammunition. Since I can't reload .22LR I picked up two big bricks of decent rounds, two big boxes of 3" buckshot rounds, I want some more 3" hulls so I get them already made and I reload them after I've used them. I can make a lot more good loads with 3" hulls than I can 2-3/4" hulls.
I also had bought another rifle, an early Hi-Point Carbine that the dude I bought it from said it's having some trigger difficulties. Once I get that fixed proper where it will shoot semi-auto like it's supposed to, I'll have a semi-auto carbine that I just need to get more mags, more ammo, more reloading materials, etc., etc.
Still need to get a motor for my roto-tiller so that I can get that blasted garden going, it is rough having so much less time than I had when I was working round the clock.
Weird how that happens huh?

How many of you use your leftover large detergent bottles to store flush water? One jug will generally flush a commode. Good thing to have on hand if your water is cut off.

Last night the guest on C2C (Majorie Wildcraft) talked about back yard gardening. She emphasized the importance of raising your own food but said not to be fooled - you MUST have protein, especially as you get older. Fast forward to today. We went to Kroger's to get some staples and saw a display of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee pasta in cans with beef. They had four or five different varieties. Now as someone who was raised in an Italian household and who spent five years in Italy, don't try to pawn canned pasta off to me, of all people. However, I backed up my thoughts for just a moment and said the can could provide needed protein in an emergency. The only problem was the normal price of the can was $1.49, but wait, it was on sale for $0.99 and if you bought in multiples of 10 (to celebrate the Daytona 500) you would get them for $0.69 each. But wait, wife had a Kroger's coupon that was good for $3.00 off our order. But wait, when we checked out the final cost to us was around $0.50 per can - and then the lovely cash register spit out three more $3.00 off your next visit coupons. Wife and I went in separately (two visits, right; and then a third time) and bought 80 cans of mixed macaroni and beef, beef raviolis, spaghetti and meatballs. Final cost was $42. Beat the system!
