New 165 grain bullets for 9MM

Post by Toepopper »

The Xtreme Bullet Company has introduced a heavy weight 165 grain projectile for the 9MM. I bought a box of 500 to experiment with. Started out with 3 grains of Tite Group Powder and shot some rounds through the chronograph. Average velocity was 785 feet per second with very mild recoil but these rounds seemed to smack the berm much harder than the lightweight 115 grain ammo. However, when firing for accuracy the 165s didn't shoot a tight group. Average group size was 3" at 45 feet. So now I have loaded 25 more using 3.4 grains of Winchester WSF powder to see if they are more accurate.
WSF will supposedly produce more velocity and hopefully be more accurate. As soon as it quits raining I will test these. For the last 6 years I have loaded 147 grain bullets for more knock down power and they have performed well, boosting the power factor of the 9MM. Its a definite advantage to have a pistol that holds 18 rounds instead of 7 like my 45 holds.
