Creasote cleaner
I would like to know if anyone knows of a cleaning product designed for removing the black tar creasote that accumulates on the chimney cap when you burn wood for a heat source. I have knocked off the large accumulations of the loose material but there remains a sticky tar like substance that refuses to come off with a wire brush.
Re: Creasote cleaner

Don't take this to the bank - I heard this from several sources and can't verify if they work!
#1 - Dry all your potato peelings (I kid you not) - burn them in the stove.
#2 - A handful of common table salt.
Now we have used the potato peelings in the stove and they burn like heck! Our chimney cleaner said also that burning UNTREATED pallet wood, it burns so hot that creosote does not form.
