PORTABLE POTABLES.

Post by Toepopper »

There are 2 relatively new to the market water purifiers being sold and both are small lightweight items that could easily be added to your BOB. The first item is called LIFESTRAW. It is a non BPA plastic straw, one inch around by 9" long and weighs only 20 ounces and it filters down to 0.2 microns, thus eliminating 99.9 % of bacteria and protozoa from any stream or other water source you may be forced to drink from while bugging out. The LifeStraw has a 3 year shelf life if stored at room temperature and will filter about 264 gallons of bad water. They sell for $25 or 2 for $40.
Item #2 is the new Sport Berkey Water Bottle & Purifier. This unit has a 22 ounce capacity. You remove the top and dip it in the water and put the top back on, then drink the water through a straw. This unit is small and can easily be carried in a back pack or bug out bag. It will filter out 99.9% of the silt/sediment, chlorine, toxic chemicals, VOCs, Trihalomethanes, detergents, pesticides and harmful microscopic pathogens like cryptosporidium, giardia, E-coli, and radon 222, plus heavy toxic metals like lead, aluminum, cadmium, chromium, copper and mercury. These units cost $30 and filter about 640 refills of water depending on how bad the water is. I saw these water filters at MyPatriotSupply.com along with other water essentials. Both of these items would eliminate the need to stop and boil bad water for purification so you could keep moving.
